WordPress Database Backup

In my article a few days ago about automatically backing up a WordPress site, I failed to realize that the WordPress Backup to Dropbox plugin backed up your files AND your database, so I came up with an elaborate (but ingenious) way of sending your database to Dropbox, too.

After removing that section from the post, I thought it would make a good article on its own, for people who just want to backup their databases to Dropbox, and not their site’s files.

WordPress Database Backup lets you backup all the core WordPress tables in your database, and gives you the option of backing up any or all of the tables created by your other plugins.

You can choose to back your database up immediately, or on a schedule. It comes with scheduling options as short as every minute or as long as every 12 weeks.

You can have the plugin email you the file it creates or put it somewhere on your server.

Great, right, but, what if you wanted to keep your database snugly tucked away in your Dropbox, safely off your hosting company’s server.

Well, you can, thanks to a free site called Send To Dropbox.

Send to Dropbox gives you an email address that allows you to beam anything you want, right into your dropbox.

Just take that email address, plug it into WordPress Database Backup and voilà, your database gets sent, on a regular schedule, to your Dropbox.

Is this the best way to backup your WordPress database or do you have a better solution. Let me know.
